Together We ReachHighlights for the School of Medicine Alumni Association mainly surround building our scholarship program. During the campaign Dr. Robert H. Ballard gave $5 million to establish eight full-ride scholarships in the SOM. One million he took from his accounts while he was alive to support the first five years of the Robert H Ballard and Dorothy Cannon Ballard Scholarships, then he bequeathed an additional $4 million at his death (which occurred in August 2011). Recently another alum, who prefers to remain anonymous at this time, set-up an endowment (RAGADS Endowed Scholarship Fund in the School of Medicine) which he plans to fund to $800,000 for a third full-ride scholarship in the SOM by the end of 2017. Twelve medical school alumni, SOM faculty and friends of the SOM have stepped up since 2010 to fund pledged student scholarships. Seven with a minimum gift of $2,500/year for five years, four with $5,000/year gift for five years, and one for $10,000/year for five years. We have also increased our smaller endowed scholarships with four new endowed funds being set-up in the past three years.
