As one of the most beautiful academic spaces on campus, and anchoring the University’s planned academic quad, the Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building is the symbolic and spatial center of the University of Utah campus, and the dynamic hub of the many departments, programs, and centers of the College of Humanities. The building is home to the Departments of History and Philosophy, the College’s International, Asian, Latin American, Middle East and Peace and Conflict Studies Programs, and the Obert C. and Grace A. Tanner Humanities Center. The Tanner Humanities Center (est. 1988) fosters scholarly inquiry and dialogue on issues critical to the human condition by supporting the work of distinguished fellows. Active learners, vibrant researchers, and an involved public find enhanced opportunities to participate in the ongoing process of dialogue and connection essential to the Humanities. This was all made possible by a major gift from Carolyn Tanner Irish.
